I’ve always considered the Royal Rumble to be the official kick off to Wrestlemania season, meaning it always feels like a big deal. Even in years when the build up has been terrible, the excitement never dies. It’s that one time of the year fans are praying that their favourite superstar can make some noise and become a big player heading into the biggest show of the year.
In the past few years, I’ve always enjoyed typing out predictions, but this has certainly been the one year where it’s been more enjoyable.
Charlotte Flair vs Bayley
I believe this feud has gone under the radar in comparison to the other four matches on the main card. For the most part, it’s been quite consistent and entertaining. Both Charlotte and Bayley have managed to present their characters with accuracy, which has allowed for the overall feud to feel as natural as it can. The story has given a viewers a reason to believe this could go either way.
As for predicting this, fans should expect for Charlotte to retain. At this point, she’s held the title for so long, it only makes sense for her to drop it at Mania. Also, Bayley losing this match only adds to her underdog character.
Winner: Charlotte Flair
Neville vs Rich Swann
Out of every crusierweight feud that’s been booked since the division’s debut, this has easily been the most entertaining. Finally there’s a credible champion and he has to wrestle a legitimate threat. This feud has given Swann a chance to shine, while giving a Neville a chance to rejuvenate himself. Not only has their story been enjoyable, the two will most likely put forth a strong match.
For a while, Neville had to remain in main roster purgatory, but it’s finally his chance to be elevated. With the way he’s been booked, this is the perfect time to finally put a championship on him.
Roman Reigns vs Kevin Owens
Out of every match on the card, this one was definitely the worst built. I can honestly say that this program hasn’t made any of the participants look better. Most fans are probably looking forward to both Roman and Owens moving on from this stale feud.
This will probably be the second title change on the show, meaning Roman will pick up the win. It appears that Owens will enter a feud with Jericho for Mania, so it makes sense for him to drop the belt.
Winner: Roman Reigns
AJ Styles vs John Cena
Unlike the Universal Championship feud, this has been the best booked one throughout all of WWE(for this PPV). I’d also go as far as saying that this has been one of the best feuds of John Cena’s career. Similar to his other top programs, this is one where he hasn’t been booked as superior to Styles. While he does talk down to him, it’s consistently mentioned how he hasn’t been able to beat AJ one on one.
With the amount of momentum John has picked up since his return, he’s the favourite to come out on top. However, it’s still important that AJ remains credible, and the win is certainly more important for him than Cena.
Winner: AJ Styles
Since 2012, this has been least predictable Royal Rumble. The great thing about this year is that there’s been multiple top programs heading into the actual match. Along with that, there’s been more than enough credible wrestlers that could be victorious.
Since there’s so many top superstars in this rumble, expect a few of them to cancel each other out. The main duo that’ll cancel themselves out is certainly Lesnar and Goldberg. Taker will most likely get eliminated by his Wrestlemania program, who I believe is Finn Balor. Apart from the other top guys, Braun Strowman has been the most pushed heading into this match. Expect for the company to go all in with him.
Winner: Braun Strowman
Well, that’s my take on this year’s Rumble. Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment sections and mention some predictions you may have.
