By now, I think it’s safe to say Takeover:Brooklyn is NXT’s largest and most important show for the year. Well, they’ve done a brilliant job at creating a diverse card for the fans this year. Just about every match has its own unique flavour.
Billie Kay vs Ember Moon
With the string of wins Kay has put together, I’m actually quite excited to see how this match plays out. Along with that, the debuting Ember Moon should also have the fans excited. Considering how the women’s division in NXT has been centered around Asuka and Bayley, I’m glad they’re now putting a focus on the next set of up coming competitors.
As mentioned, Kay has put together a few wins, but chances are she won’t defeat someone on their debut.
Winner: Ember Moon
Andrade Almas vs Bobby Roode
Honestly, I can’t recall the last time I watched a full Roode match. I’m sure many fans can say the same thing. From what we can see, it appears that both men are set to play big roles in NXT, and that’s why this match feels quite important. Along with that, Almas is undefeated, so watching him take on a debuting Bobby Roode will only make this contest more entertaining.
At this point in, I believe Andrade can take a loss, but I’m fairly confident it won’t be clean. That way neither competitor leaves looking weaker or stronger than the other.
Winner: Bobby Roode
The Revival vs Tomasso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano
Recently, both Gargano and Ciampa have had a skip to their step. It definitely hasn’t been by luck, because these two have worked hard to entertain the fans of NXT. Not only has their wrestling been entertaining, but their characters come across as likable.
The Revival have also proven to be a great heel tag team, especially when their paired with the right babyfaces. I believe they’ve done an excellent job at attracting heat from fans.
Taking all of this into consideration, expect Gargano and Ciampa to emerge as the new NXT tag champs. They clearly deserve more time in the spotlight, and there’s a good chance the Revival gets called up sometime soon.
Winner: Tomasso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano
No Way Jose vs Austin Aries
In my opinion, this has easily been the most underrated feud on this Takeover card. What started from a goofy dance segment, quickly escalated into a heated feud. How often do we see that? What also makes this feud even more interesting is that many fans were willing to write off No Way Jose as nothing more than a comedy act. Jose himself has proven he can be a serious character, and that goes to show how versatile he truly is.
As it stands, Austin Aries is currently 1-1 at Takeover specials. A few months ago, he was one of the tops guys at Full Sail, however since then he’s fallen into an upper mid-card role. Considering his talent, in the ring and on the mic, it would be shame if he wasn’t propelled into a larger program after this show. Assuming the bookers of NXT recognize this, I’m predicting Aries to come out victorious.
Winner: Austin Aries
Asuka vs Bayley
Heading into this weekend, I find this match to be the most predictable out of every match on this card and the Summerslam card. With Bayley making an appearance at Battleground, the WWE has already shown their hand as to who will most likely be called up next. If the hugger is being called up to Raw or Smackdown, don’t expect her to win. This will still be a good match, and can possibly steal the show. Also, another win over Bayley will be great for Asuka as she continues her strong run with the women’s title.
Samoa Joe vs Shinsuke Nakamura
It’s fair to say that this is probably the most anticipated match of the PPV. The build up has been strong, for the most part, and they’ll probably put forth the most hard hitting/stiff match this weekend.
Shinsuke has been nothing but superb since his NXT debut, The fans have warmed up to him quickly, especially the ones that weren’t familiar with his work in NJPW. He’s continuously put on good matches, and he’s at a point where most of the Barclays Center will probably be cheering for him to win. However, this won’t be his night and he won’t be standing tall at the end of the broadcast. Samoa Joe has put in a lot of work at NXT, and deserves to hold on to that title a little longer. He also has a lot more left in him, and he’s only defended the title only once before this match.
A win over Nakamura would put Joe on a level of his own, similar to how I see Brock on the main roster
Winner: Samoa Joe
