Wednesday Wrap Around – Mock Draft & Analysis (July 13)

wwedraft

With the draft one week away, I’ve decided to create my mock draft this week. I can’t say it was easy, as separating a large portion of the roster isn’t quite easy. Not every name on the WWE roster was brought up, but I essentially made room for every superstar that they decide to showcase.

Raw

Top Card:

  • Seth Rollins – He’ll most likely go first overall. An accomplishment such as first overall should go to a heel in order maintain bragging rights
  • *Dean Ambrose – It’ll be interesting to see how Stephanie chooses Ambrose. I’m guessing she’ll want the title on her show with confidence that Seth will win.
  • Roman Reigns – They’ll most likely push this Shield Triple Threat until Summerslam. It only makes sense to have all three on the same show.
  • Bray Wyatt – With Raw being three hours long, it’ll require an additional top card guy. Bray brings an interesting dynamic to the show as his character is the most unique.

Upper Mid Card

  • *The Miz
  • Samoa Joe (night after Summerslam)
  • Cesaro
  • Kevin Owens
  • Sheamus
  • *Charlotte
  • Sasha Banks

Mid/Lower Card

  • Braun Strowman
  • Eric Rowan
  • Luke Harper
  • Apollo Crews
  • Enzo Amore
  • Big Cass
  • Sin Cara
  • Titus O’Neil
  • Jimmy Uso
  • Jey Uso
  • Nikki Bella
  • Nia Jax
  • Zack Ryder
  • Aiden English
  • Simon Gotch
  • Heath Slater
  • Curtis Axel
  • Bo Dallas
  • Dana Brooke

Smackdown

Top Card:

  • John Cena – Cena and Styles are not finished, by any means. They’ll most likely finish their feud at Summerslam.
  • AJ Styles – Styles has proven to the WWE that he deserves to be in their main event scene. I predict his final match with Cena will be for the main title on Smackdown with AJ coming out on top.
  • Randy Orton – What better way to start a new and improved Smackdown than showcasing Orton vs Lesnar?

Upper Mid Card

  • *Rusev
  • Sami Zayn
  • Finn Balor – He’ll most likely lose his match to Nakamura this week. I don’t believe they have anywhere else to go with him but bring him up to the main roster.
  • Chris Jericho
  • Alberto Del Rio

Mid/Lower Card

  • *Big E
  • *Xavier Woods
  • *Kofi Kingston
  • Dolph Ziggler
  • Luke Gallows
  • Karl Anderson
  • Kalisto
  • Jason Jordan
  • Chad Gable
  • Darren Young
  • Becky Lynch
  • Natalya
  • Paige
  • Naomi
  • Bubba Ray Dudley
  • D-Von Dudley
  • Tyler Breeze
  • Fandango

*Champion

Women’s Division

Before making this mock draft, I had thought maybe one show could take on the women’s division, while the other could take on the tag division. Well, once I looked through the roster a few times, I realized that would have been a horrible idea. As it stands, there’s a solid group of women who can lead the division, but apart from that there’s no depth. I’d compare it to a hockey team that has a great first line and defensive pair, but nothing else to balance them out. Based on my mock draft, there’s only five competitors that are currently relevant, and that’s why I included a new name, Nia Jax. Her physical appearance alone would be refreshing, because there’s nobody that has the physique that she does. She may be green, but she works a style that no other women on the main roster can.

There’s a few female wrestlers in NXT (Bayley, Asuka, Alexa Bliss, etc) that are ready to be called up, and once they are, I believe both shows will be able to sustain a competent women’s division. As for now, one half of that group will take a back seat.

Tag Division

After going through the entire roster, I realized that there is quite a few tag teams in the WWE. The quantity is there, however the quality isn’t. Right now, the only credible tag teams are the New Day, Enzo & Cass, the Wyatt Family ,and the Club. Unless the WWE plans to heat up some of the other teams, they’ll need to call up a new one from NXT. The reason I picked Jordan and Gable is because their run in NXT is coming to an end, and they also connect with entire fan base. They can easily be built into contenders overnight, and I believe the WWE knows that.

At the same time, they’ll still need to create a new set of tag titles. That’ll be the best way to keep each team competitive and in rotation.

Brock Lesnar/Undertaker

Brock and Taker are only around a few times during the year, I don’t believe they need to be involved in the draft. Having them jump back and forth makes for fresher match ups and feuds.  For Brock, this can easily be explained by stating his contract allows him to go on both shows. Does this need to be explained for Taker? I think his status in the company allows for him to not be questioned.

Heel/Babyface Dynamic

I’d expect some of these wrestlers to have a change of character once the brand split occurs. If you haven’t noticed yet, the roster is stacked with heels. That needs to change once everybody is separated, or else  each show will begin to feel stale.

Conclusion

For any of my readers that have created a mock draft of your own, please feel free to share it, along with a explanation on why certain stars went to certain shows. This is a fun time to be a WWE fan, and I’d love to hear what others are thinking.

I’m also proud to announce that starting next Thursday I’ll be covering TNA, and the Wednesday Wrap Around will be moving to Friday.
