On to the NXT One – Possible Scenarios for NXT Champions (Jan. 7)

After another year has gone by, NXT is entering 2016 with massive expectations. Never has brand been as large as it currently is, and this means they must deliver in every which way. Since we don’t have a new episode this week, I’d like to use this article to discuss the possibilities and scenarios for the promotion’s title pictures.

NXT Championship

Finn Balor has done a magnificent job as the NXT Champion, and he’s managed to sell most fans on his feuds. Chances are that he won’t be continuing his program with Samoa Joe, because he had won the match clean. At this point, we should expect a new challenger, and expect that man to be Baron Corbin. The Lone Wolf is the perfect candidate as he has nowhere to go but the title picture. With the next Takeover special most likely being in February, the two will should feud until then.

Eventually Finn will need a more compelling story line, rather than him just overcoming monster heels. With the rumours in regards to Hideo Itami’s return, a possible feud between friends may be the way to go. Of course, a babyface vs babyface feud isn’t intriguing enough, and this is where they may turn Balor into a heel. Hideo himself exudes babyface charisma so there shouldn’t be any doubt of him getting over with the crowd. With Finn’s Bullet Club members on their way to NXT, this may be the way to go.

NXT Women’s Championship

Some say NXT should be concerned about the women’s division, but I say they it has a ton of potential. When it was just Becky Lycnh, Charlotte, Sasha Banks, and Bayley, the division was probably more shallow than it is now. The title picture itself maybe be up for debate, but we’re witnessing better secondary feuds than we have before. Since Bayley has cleaned out the rest, we should expect her to enter a tag program possibly with Asuka, while feuding with Eva Marie and Nia Jax. Let’s not forget that Eva is a competitor of high interest to the WWE, meaning she’ll definitely be involved in one way or another.

As for Bayley’s next championship defence, don’t be surprised if they find a way to sneak Dana Brooke into that picture by the end of February.

NXT Tag Team Championships

I can’t be the only NXT fan that Dash and Dawson have proved wrong. When they had first captured the titles, I stood firm with my belief that they were as dull as the previous two teams. Not only have they found a way to garner legitemate heat from the audience, but they’re quite impressive when it comes to work rate. The pair have spent most of their reign feuding with crowd favourites, Enzo Amore & Big Cass; that alone has made it easy to cheer against them. This is one program I can picture heading into the new year, as the champs retained at Takeover through questionable means.

While the reigning champs have done better than most probably expected, I don’t predict they’ll go far into 2016 with those titles. If anything they’ll drop them to Enzo Amore and Big Cass by the next Takeover. However, Chad Gable and Jason Jordan also make a compelling case to become the next number one contenders. The two gained a ton of steam heading into the new year, and are one of the most over acts in the promotion.

Like many of my predictions, none of these are ever set in stone, and they change quite often. I felt it would be interesting to review the different title pictures, because many of the feuds were wrapped up at the last Takoever. Similar to most fans, I can’t stop thinking about what happens next.
