With a few days left until the Money in the Bank PPV, the WWE has failed to use Bray Wyatt in any shape or form. The eater of worlds will now be left of 2 consecutive PPVs, which is a shame. I’m using this week’s Wednesday Wrap Around to discuss the use of the new face of fear.
He still has potential to be a top draw
Bray Wyatt came into the year 2015 very hot. Even at the end of 2014 he was part of a series of interesting matches with Dean Ambrose. While some of the matches weren’t great, some of them actually delivered in terms of entertainment. Afterwards he kicked the year off by looking better than any other wrestler in the 2015 Royal Rumble. During the annual January PPV I was convinced at one moment that he might actually win the rumble. While he couldn’t accomplish that, he singlehandedly carried a fun program with the Undertaker. When thinking about everything he did from November 2014 to March 2015, I can easily notice that this man is highly capable of hanging with the top dogs of the WWE.
The WWE is trying to preserve the mystique of his character, and I understand where they’re coming from, I just don’t believe it’s working for him at the moment. Even the Undertaker in his prime was able to be involved with regular story lines and was never held back to remain mysterious. Bray has a gift and is lucky enough to pull off an extreme gimmick such as his. In a day where wrestling is based on more realistic characters, he knows how to make his work. With all of this being said, there is no reason that Bray shouldn’t be utilized in the current story lines heading into MITB.
How to book him
If it were up to me, Wyatt would have won the Intercontinental title at Elimination Chamber. He won the two matches prior to the last PPV, so I don’t understand why he didn’t receive any consideration for a title opportunity. Moving forward into the summer, I believe the WWE has a good chance of making him look good by the end of August. Assuming they book him right, we might see him compete for a title or in a meaningful feud. Everything should start off with this Sunday’s PPV, and have Wyatt interfere in Ryback’s match with the Big Show. I’m sure creative has plans for most tops guys but it would be easy for these men to continue their feud. By Battleground, the eater of worlds can go over, clean or not, and capture his first ever championship. Don’t get me wrong, I love Ryback in the position he is currently occupying, but I believe Wyatt would be better off with that title. Once he defeats the big guy I think it would be fun to see him feud with the Big Show. Of course the WWE always wants to have Show in some sort of high profile match, and there’s nothing better than him putting over Bray at Summerslam.
This isn’t the only way to get Bray Wyatt some attention on the main roster, as there are multiple possibilities of getting him back on the card. I believe the WWE is depriving themselves of top-notch star when they don’t utilize Bray to his full extent. If they can properly book him by making him one of the focal points of the show, I think they’ll notice the success right away.
Keep an eye out for this Sunday’s podcast with Aaron Flow and myself, we plan on discussing MITB along with other matters in the wrestling world.
