Wednesday Wrap Around – Let’s Go Cena, Cena Sucks (May 27)

I’ve decided to dedicate this week’s Wednesday Wrap Around to analyze John’s most recent run in the WWE. A year ago at this time John Cena was not the most liked wrestler among the die hard wrestling fans. He just came out of a feud with Bray Wyatt, where many fans would argue that he destroyed Wyatt’s momentum. Fast forward a full year, it can be argued Cena is currently the most captivating star on the roster. His run has been special and it feels like the most organic thing on the show. With his incredible run, we’ve gotten the highly anticipated feud that is Cena vs Owens.

Why this run has been his most unique:

John Cena has had some high quality programs throughout his illustrious career, but I believe this one in particular is his most unique. During John’s climb to the top he has faced his fair share of criticism from a certain segment of the fans base. These fans would at times find ways to pick out his staleness and assume he was never willing to put over some of the younger stars on the roster. As of now, he is essentially the same character he was a year ago, but he has found a way to tweak his presence. By paying more attention to his in ring work and willingness to work with exclusively young talent, Cena has changed the minds of many doubters. Also, we’re not getting a John that needs to overcome the odds. Instead he has turned into a man that accepts any challenge.

I’ve always considered Cena on of the few faces the company has had in their history, and he can proudly say that out of all of them he has taken a step back into smaller role to help elevate the younger portion of the roster. Not many top guys of the past can say they have done what John is currently pursuing. To me it’s as if he took a look in the mirror and said to himself that he wanted to do more as a pro-wrestler, even though he’s accomplished more than most in his field. His current position is reminiscent of they used Angle at times off the main card.

John Cena vs Kevin Owens

This recent feud has been a complete surprise to the fans of WWE. It came as a shock, and since then they have done a good job at building it. Who would have thought that a 2 week build is all they would need. On a card where Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose are set to wrestle I find it amazing the most anticipated contest will be the US champion against the NXT champion .I honestly believe this might be the best build to one of Cena’s feuds since Money in the Bank 2011. Since Owens is coming in rather hot, I expect he comes out looking strong at Elimination Chamber. He’ll most likely pin Cena, and we will be shown that John does in fact care about the company’s future. We’ll only know by Sunday how good their chemistry is, because if they work well together I can see them doing this for a while.

What we’ve seen John Cena do within the past 2 months has been nothing short of spectacular. Cena’s open challenge has been well done and has built up to this match we’ll see on Sunday. Kevin Owens has managed to become the perfect opponent, but Cena has done the job in terms of setting up the hype.
